When hockey and friendship collide! An old friendship is pushed to its limits as Millie and Cameron face off against each other in a grudge match to finally see who’s got the best hockey team in Dakota. Millie and Cameron grew up as close as any two friends could be, playing together on the same hockey team and hanging out together after school. However, when the hockey team was split between boys and girls, their friendship began to change, and not for the better.
Now, Millie and Cameron are rivals, playing against each other to finally settle who has the best hockey team, boys or girls?
Would you please introduce yourself to my readers and share something about your life.
Hi, my name is Ben Jackson and my wife’s name is Sam Lawrence. Together we self-publish a range of children’s books. Our latest book is called ‘Hockey Wars’ and is a story about a boys versus girls hockey battle. We both work as freelance writers and own and operate a self-publishing company called Indie Publishing Group which helps indie authors self-publish their books.
What is something unique/quirky about you?
We are both in a long-term committed long-distance relationship. I live in Australia, while my wife Sam lives in Canada. We frequently travel between both countries.
What are some of your pet peeves?
I hate people that aren’t willing to commit to their own dreams. If I have one piece of advice, it’s that if you want something to happen then go for it!
What are your top 10 favorite books/authors?
Top ten is hard to nail down. I love reading books by authors such as Wilbur Smith, Bernard Cornwell, and James A Michener. I love sagas and long books that drag you across centuries and dynasties.
What inspired you to write this book? (If you have more than one book, please choose one.)
This book is my wife Sam’s personal baby. She is an accomplished hockey player and has been itching to write this book for several years now.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Lot’s more children’s books! They’re great fun to write and illustrate.
Where were you born/grew up at?
I was born and raised in Tasmania, Australia. My wife Same was born and raised in Ontario, Canada.
What makes a good story?
A good story is a page turner. One that people read and can’t put down and read it from cover to cover. You want kids to read your books over and over again and be looking forward to the next book in the series.
What do you do to unwind and relax?
We both love watching Netflix or travelling.
How to find time to write as a parent?
Our children are older, so it makes it a lot easier to find time to write. We both work full-time jobs which makes it a lot harder.
Advice you would give new authors?
Keep writing and never give up! Do as much self promotion as you can.
How long have you been writing?
I have been writing for almost four years now. I’m also a freelance writer for other authors and businesses.
What is your writing process? For instance do you do an outline first? Do you do the chapters first?
I like to just write and wing it, but my wife Sam likes to plan out the story line and plot. She develops characters and plans out the entire book.
Describe yourself in 5 words or less!
Fun, funny, easy going and friendly.
How did you come up with the concept and characters for the book? (Pick one of your books if you have books.)
My wife Sam developed all the characters for this book and helped to bring them to life through her own experiences playing hockey growing up in Canada.
